這情況我剛來美國時有遇過。後來我哥來美國時也有遇到。什麼情況呢？
開車的時候經常會遇到「下一個路口右轉」或是「下一個出口（離開交流道）」。用英文表達的話直覺上也是 “Next right (turn)”，“next exit”，但是問題沒這麼簡單。
回到我前頭說的我哥遇到的情況。有次我們和朋友出遊，我哥是駕駛，朋友是當地人，朋友知道路線，所以他一路指示開哪條路，哪邊轉之類的。開著開著，朋友說“next exit” ，我哥就很順其自然的以為是「下一個出口」於是就待在原本的車道繼續開。快到出口時我哥車子還沒往外側車道開，於是朋友和我兩人趕緊說“Take this exit!” 我哥聽到後也是一臉慌張，然後趕緊換車道往出口開。之後我也稍微跟他解釋一下英文的 “next” 和我們的「下一個」意思上的差別，畢竟我也遇過這情況。
前幾天我出門時注意到路邊的告示牌有“NEXT RIGHT” 字樣，所以我從 Google Maps 截了這兩張圖，算是很好的示範例子。

三體這系列小說原本我沒有太大的興趣，後來看到Netflix 要翻拍這影集，然後剛好網路上有人上傳大陸版影集的部份片段，好奇之下我點了來看，不過這也僅只於關鍵的科幻原理部份。去年底又在網路上看到有關這系列小說的訊息，反正年底假期閒閒無事就找了這三本小說來讀。
怎麼說呢，是會欲罷不能的一直想知道接下來的故事發展，不過後面的兩部小說一些細節我讀得很不耐，一些部份我直接跳過。因為我有略過一些細節，所以我不能很肯定接下來要說的是否正確，但是似乎在所有三本小說裡頭只有在第三本提到一次夸克。因為在第一部小說首次出現的一個關鍵外星科技，作者在說明時感覺上好像不知道質子是由夸克組成…… 而這也和粒子加速器碰撞實驗很難出現一致的結果有關。畢竟發現 Higgs boson 的實驗發佈是在第三本小說之後，也難怪作者在說明書裡的一些現象時讓我有些「出戲」。
而我在讀第二部，特別是第三部小說時，很多時候我一直聯想到 Robert Charles Wilson 的 Spin 系列小說。倒不是說這兩系列小說有什麼相似之處，能扯上邊的就只是兩者都是科幻小說，兩者在故事的時間敘述上都是現在，未來，然後更遠的未來。是都有提到奈米科技，不過涵蓋範圍不一樣。都是和外星人有關，都有提到不同維度空間，也都有提到能創造出獨立於我們所處的宇宙時空之外的時空科技，不過同樣的兩邊的細部敘述和涵蓋範圍也不一樣。
讓我想到 Spin 的主因是在細節和人與人之間互動的敘述上Wilson 寫的很好。讀他的小說我沒有不耐到想「快轉」略過。有個網友對 Spin （第一部）的評論說的很好，他說這小說主要是在講人與人之間的關係，科幻情節反而是背景。也因此我一直對 Spin 系列小說念念不忘，總想找個機會再讀一次（特別是當年我是先讀第三部，之後才是讀第一和第二部）。三體的話畢竟作者的點子很新奇（雖然讓我「出戲」），只是在知道總體的故事走向之後我就沒有想再次閱讀的欲望。很可惜，沒人翻拍 Spin 系列小說。
