我們 kitchen 有台小電視,我正在看晚間新聞,我的 roommate 則在 dinning room 擦油漆,因為隔了面牆,所以他看不到電視畫面,只能用聽的。那時正在報導關於恐怖攻擊的消息,然後一個女記者在一家店裡正要展示如何製造液態炸彈,突然我 聽到他好像在說些什麼話,於是我走去dinning room去看看發生了什麼事,這時他正有些義憤填膺的說These are well-educated people.... At the very least, they can try to pronounce the word right...."
他這樣子的反應我倒是有些意外,所以我問他怎麼了?原來他聽到新聞裡的那個女記者 把"Supposedly"念成SupposeBly。
"SupposeBly, SupposeBly, it's SupposeDly!"然後他接著說"I used to work with a guy who always said SupposeBly. It was driving me nuts!"
說實在的,我還真的沒注意到....
